What satisfies the Project Management application’s educational requirements (35 hrs)?

From the PMP Credential Handbook:

Candidates must verify at least 35 contact hours of specific instruction that addresses learning objectives in project management. Candidates can document all project management education hours regardless of when they were accrued so long as course work has been completed at the time of application. These hours may include content on project quality, scope, time, cost, human resources, communications, risk, procurement and integration management.

Candidates can satisfy the project management educational requirements by demonstrating the successful completion of courses, workshops, and training sessions through one or more of the following types of education providers:

  • Courses or programs offered by PMI Registered Education Providers (R.E.P.s)*
  • University/college academic and continuing education programs
  • Courses or programs offered by PMI Component organizations*
  • Courses or programs offered by employer/company-sponsored programs
  • Courses or programs offered by distance-learning companies, including an end of course assessment.
  • Courses or programs offered by training companies or consultants
The following education does not satisfy the education requirements:
  • PMI Chapter meetings
  • Self-study (e.g. reading books)

How many PDUs must I obtain to remain a PMP?

In order to satisfy CCR program requirements and maintain an active certificate status, individuals who have attained the PMP credential must accrue and report a minimum of 60 professional development units (PDUs) during each 3-year CCR cycle, complete an Application for Certification Renewal and payment of the renewal fee, and reaffirm the Project Management Professional (PMP®) Code of Professional Conduct.

How can I get PDUs quickly?

  • Self Study
  • Attend Austin Chapter Professional Development Day
  • Attend monthly chapter meetings and presentations. (Attending a 2 hour workshop earns 2 PDUs. While attending a 1 hour presentation earns 1 PDU).
  • Volunteer

How do I claim PDUs for a chapter meeting?

  • Go to Online PDU Resources
  • Type your PMI ID number, PMP certification number, and password (first 4 characters of your last name).
  • Select PMI PDU Self Report Form, then click LOGIN
  • Select Category 3: Registered Education Provider program/PMI Component Event. Click Continue.
  • In Option 2:, enter PMI Austin Chapter.
  • The next screen displays the chapter name and Provider ID. (The chapter's provider number is C061.) Click the chapter name.
  • Click PMI Component Presentation (One to two PDUs). The PDU Activity Report is displayed. Your PMI number, category type, PMI Component Number and Name fields are already populated.
  • Type the name of the workshop or presentation you attended.

Note: It's a good idea to save any handouts as confirmation of your attendance, just in case you get audited.

  • Click I Agree at the bottom of the page. Then click Preview.
  • Review the information. If it is correct, print the page for your records.
  • Click Finalize Submission.
