2009 Officer Elections

To All PMI Austin Chapter Members:

It is time to start the PMI Austin Chapter Board election process for 2009.  The election window is August 26 through September 12.  Members will receive an email to vote in early September. Results will be announced in December 2008.

Offices for election for 2009 are: President-Elect, Chief Operating Officer, External Services Officer and Treasurer.

There are other non-elected board positions to be filled for 2009 as well.

We are looking for candidates who will make a difference in the Chapter and help grow the Association in the Austin area.  If you are interested in these opportunities, please contact Dave Sekel at pastpresident@austinpmi.org and a member of the Nominations Committee will contact you.

Below are the nominees for 2009 Officer positions:

NOMINEES FOR PRESIDENT - ELECT:

DAVE PENN, PMP:  I began managing federally funded projects in 1978 and have been involved with projects since then. I have nearly 30 years at state government, and currently do some consulting for non profits. For the past 18 years I have been active in Boy Scouts, by training scoutmasters and assisting potential Eagle scouts with project management as well and leading some major district operations.  My son is an Eagle Scout, my daughter a Dean’s list graduate, and my wife a Registered Nurse;   I’m pleased they let me hang around them.

I have been active on the board for more than 5 years and enjoy working with the highly professional and talented folks that support PMI.  Over the years, I have learned that most everybody wants to show you their best efforts. A leader simply allows and enables them to do so. I see my position as a leader within the board as an opportunity to allow the members and volunteers to exceed their own expectations of excellence.

TOM LOVE, PMP: I have 40+ years experience in management, project management, training, and organizational development activities. I currently conduct project management workshops on project team facilitation skills and project team building method and techniques.

I will commit to the duties and responsibilities of President-Elect , which are to support the board in carrying out its responsibilities to the chapter and PMI, and to prepare to become chapter president.
I was PMI Austin Chapter president in 2005, when the chapter received its first national award, the PMI Chapter Collaboration Award.  My leadership style is collaboration and team development. I believe each board member has something to contribute. I also believe that the board is committed to serving the needs of the membership.  I would like to continue my service to the Austin PMI chapter and PMI starting as President-Elect in 2009 and continuing through Past President. Thanks for your support.

NOMINEES FOR CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER (COO):

Lorna Stewart-Booker, PMP is a Senior Technical Program/Project Manager who has been in the IT industry for 20+ years and during that time has worked with private software companies, state and local government, financial, and utilities companies.  I presently manage financial projects as a consultant/contractor for Charles Schwab.   I joined Austin PMI in 2001 and has been actively participating on the Board as Director of Programs and now serving as Director of Special Projects.

I think it is time to step up and pursue an officer’s position and that is why I’m interested in the COO position.  I’ve learned a great deal as a member of the Board and I’d like to boost my involvement with PMI and be instrumental in assisting the chapter in achieving greater success.  The COO position would allow me to support a variety of segments and provide an opportunity for personal and professional growth.

NOMINEE FOR EXTERNAL SERVICES OFFICER:

Anne Bamford, PMP:   I have served as the Marketing Director for the Austin chapter for the past year and was named ‘Rookie Board Member of the Year’. I have a lot of passion for project management and I strive to increase awareness about PMI methodology and project management as profession across the community and local businesses.

I was an integral part of the team that put on the first annual Austin PMI Job fair which was a huge success, and I plan to continue to support similar endeavors to promote the chapter and provide value to fellow chapter members. I am PMP certified, and currently employed as a Program Manager for Digital Motorworks, Inc.

NOMINEE FOR  TREASURER:

Sam Farias, PMP: I have been involved with finance and project management for the last 12 years with the City of Austin. I have supervised budgeting, purchasing, accounts payable and accounts receivable for the City’s Street and Bridge Division and currently am the Financial Manager for the Public Works Department, overseeing a $119 million budget.

I am also a certified PMP and have worked on IT and other projects with the City, most recently as an accounting SME (subject matter expert) on a 3-year project implementing the City’s new financial system.

I have recently started assisting Austin PMI as Financial Reports Director.  My first goal as Treasurer would be to ensure the financial integrity and liquidity of the organization and to provide great customer service to our members.
